It is expected that Europe will have to prepare for a difficult winter, common European answers must be found to solve the economic problems, said Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Friday, arriving at the meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union member states in Brussels.

He reminded that there are EU member states that are already taking measures to avoid gas shortages, however, he emphasized, it is only possible to effectively recover from the difficult period through joint action.

He also announced that his government supports the European Commission's proposal for the joint procurement of energy carriers, as well as the establishment of a price ceiling. In his opinion, the European Commission should take charge of the matter, because the different measures of the member states can have a negative effect.
In the context of Germany's push to reduce energy consumption by the population, De Croo expressed his concern and said that if the German government expects a gas shortage, it will have an extraordinary impact not only on Germany, but also on other member states.
