Natural gas transport to Hungary from the south has resumed after the long-planned maintenance work on the Turkish Stream pipeline was successfully completed, Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the head of the ministry held a meeting with relevant actors from the point of view of energy security at Mol's headquarters in Budapest, after which he reported that
On Monday evening, natural gas transport resumed on the pipeline coming from Russia via Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia to Hungary.
As he stated, our country receives exactly the amount according to the long-term gas purchase contract concluded last year on the southern delivery route, the reliability of which is still 100 percent. He then added that due to the maintenance difficulties of the North Stream-1, the amount of Russian natural gas delivered to Western Europe has decreased significantly recently, which also affects deliveries to Hungary via Austria.
Hungarian security of supply is not in danger
Although only half of the originally contracted quantity is currently arriving in Hungary on this route, the 1.3 million cubic meters thus lost per day can be obtained on the spot market without any problems.
From the point of view of Hungarian security of supply, there is no need to fear any kind of danger"
he said. Péter Szijjártó reminded that negotiations are still ongoing regarding the Russian Gazprom diverting the missing quantity from Austria to the southern transport route.
