Less than a third of Budapest residents (31 percent) would support Gergely Karácsony in a municipal election due this Sunday, while 66 percent of them would like to see a new mayor at the head of the capital, according to a July survey by Századvég. The public opinion survey looked into how the citizens of the capital feel about the work and results of the current mayor and the Budapest city administration, their statement says.
Six out of ten Budapest residents are dissatisfied with Karácsony's performance as city manager. The research shows that 62 percent of the respondents believe that things are going in the wrong direction in Budapest today, while 32 percent expressed a positive opinion on this issue.
In this context, a negative picture emerges of the assessment of the mayor's work. According to the survey, 60 percent of the respondents are dissatisfied with Gergely Karácsony's activities as mayor, while 38 percent consider the politician's work adequate, the research states.
It can also be stated that nearly two-thirds of Budapest residents (64 percent) believe that Gergely Karácsony has disappointed people overall in the past period. Among other things, the voters' disillusionment with the mayor may be due to the traffic chaos, which has perpetuated as a result of improperly coordinated renovations, the spectacular deterioration of public cleanliness in the capital, and the drop in the standard of public services in Budapest, which problems make the everyday life of the capital's citizens noticeably more difficult.
