A secret bunker is being built for the meetings of the leaders of the European Union in Brussels, so that the politicians can confer in safety, without, for example, Russian agents eavesdropping on them, writes Mandiner based on EUObserver .
The meeting room is expected to have a hundred seats, a total of 34 leading politicians will be accommodated, and apart from them, only their assistants, protocol and technical staff, and service staff will be allowed to enter. The 34 leading political seats are already for the expansion of the EU, as 27 seats would be enough for now, but the union is expected to expand with new member states in the coming years.
They will pay attention to everything
Anyone who enters the hall must go through a security check, in which they must also prove why they are in the hall. Even drivers are no exception to this, as they also have to leave all their electronic devices outside: laptops, mobile phones and smart watches, and even hearing aids. The hall will be completely closed off from the Internet, but those inside will be able to communicate with the outside world. The entire room will be surrounded by a NATO certified isolation cage to prevent unauthorized listening.
The bunker is expected to be completed in 2024 and will cost a total of eight million euros. The exact location has not yet been decided, but it is expected that it will not be far from the current meeting rooms, so that politicians can go in and out comfortably.
