The war against Ukraine, cooperation between Brazil and Hungary, helping persecuted Christians and family policy were also topics of the discussion with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, President Katalin Novák said in her Monday press statement following the exchange of views in Brasilia.
Katalin Novák said: They agree with President Bolsonaro that peace is needed, as soon as possible, for which both Brazil and Hungary offer to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
He also reminded that Brazil and Hungary have been cooperating in the fields of agriculture, food and water industry since 2019, and there is also a new area of cooperation, helping persecuted Christians.
Katalin Novák emphasized that her first trip outside of Europe was to Brazil, because the cooperation between the two countries is extremely important. Brazil is an important partner, the relationship between the two countries is getting closer diplomatically, economically, in the field of science and in education, he pointed out.
He said that Hungary had ordered two jet-propelled military transport planes from Brazil as part of its military development, which will be put into service next year.
He reminded that 138 days have passed since Russia attacked Ukraine.
"We condemn the attack, but at the same time we consider peace to be the most important," he pointed out, adding that he asked the Brazilian president to use his country's influence in order to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible.
He highlighted the protection of families and family policy as the third area of the discussion.
As he said, even as the President of the Republic of Hungary, he stands by Hungarian families, families that have children and families that raise children.
He emphasized: it can be seen that almost everywhere in the developed world the desire to have children is decreasing, and the number of marriages is decreasing. Such a trend has also started in Brazil, and that is why it is gratifying that President Bolsonaro has put the support of families at the center and is trying to do everything to ensure that traditional families can receive as much help as possible, said Katalin Novák.
Bolsonaro said: "100,000 Hungarians live among us, and we are a country where we all live in peace. There is currently a conflict in Hungary's neighborhood - I am thinking of the Russian-Ukrainian war. I had a big conversation with President Putin before the war. The truth often hurts, but there is no other way but peaceful coexistence."
The Brazilian president emphasized that the visit of Katalin Novák is a huge honor for him. He emphasized that Hungary and Brazil are united by the defense of homeland, family and freedom.
