The national chief medical officer called it particularly important that anyone who notices symptoms, such as throat scratching or sneezing, should contact their family doctor and not go out into the community, because it is easier to pass the infection on to others than in the previous variants. In the case of the new variants, many people complain of headaches - pointed out Cecília Müller.

He also talked about the fact that the new variants "evade" the vaccines to some extent, the vaccinated can also get infected, but they usually get over the disease more easily and do not end up in the hospital. Emphasizing the importance of vaccinations, he said that the fourth vaccination is recommended for the age group over 60 and chronic patients.

The government information portal announced on Wednesday that a total of 8,036 new infected people were confirmed in one week, bringing the total number of identified infected people to 1,940,824 since the beginning of the epidemic. Most of the 35 who died in the past week were old, chronic patients, so the number of those who died rose to 46,696. The number of people who have recovered is constantly increasing, currently 1,878,221 people, and the number of active infected people has increased to 15,907 people. Currently, 628 coronavirus patients are being treated in hospital, 16 of them are on ventilators.
