– The European Union withholds important funds from Hungary and Poland in terms of competitiveness. However, we can already see the spark of cooperation. I can say that the European Commission is currently a better partner than the left-wing part of the Hungarian opposition. The result of this could be seen in the election, but they did not learn from it. It is a competitive disadvantage for Hungary that the left-wing opposition is doing everything to prevent our country from getting the resources - said Gergely Gulyás on Wednesday at the event of the 31st Bálványosi Summer Free University and Student Camp.
The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office believes that Europe will have to help in the reconstruction of Ukraine. But he considers it a mistake to introduce sanctions that destroy our own economy. As he said, if Europe destroys its own economy as a result of the sanctions, it will not be in a position to help anyone.
– We have always said that Ukraine's sovereignty is important to us because it is good to have a country between Hungary and Russia. At the same time, regardless of the security risks, if one looks at the economic map, it is difficult to argue that Hungary should trade with Russia, said Gergely Gulyás.
The global minimum tax and EU support for alleviating the economic damage caused by the coronavirus have nothing to do with each other , the minister emphasized.
The minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office added that many countries in Western Europe buy a lot of raw materials from Russia. As he said, this cannot be changed from one moment to the next, the alternatives are more expensive and their availability is limited. That is why, according to the head of the ministry, it was a legitimate question whether the sanctions should be extended to the field of energy. Hungary took the position, and even continues to take the position, that the field of energy should not be sanctioned. According to Gergely Gulyás, Europe made a strategic decision with the sanctions policy, which is wrong in the current situation.
- It seems that the countries of the region have not even begun to think about solving energy dependence. It is as if it were a natural law that the countries of the region must be dependent and extremely export-driven. Sooner or later, we will pay the price if we expose our country to the extremes of foreign interests. We are now facing a major problem that we may be able to solve at the European level, but it is not certain - said András Schiffer . The ex-representative believes that the sanctions policy is certainly not in the interest of Europe.
– At the end of the day, it might be good for China, besides, there are American companies that are doing well, and the aggressor will probably also profit. It must be stated that it is an unforgivable crime to invade a state and use violence against civilian targets. But let's measure with equal standards. On the other side, there is moral indignation, but international law has been trampled on by the West with the wars it has started, at least as much as the Putin regime.
