Thomas Schmid wrote an opinion piece for Die Welt. The author was previously the editor-in-chief of the German paper, and later its publisher. "The Hungarian Prime Minister is positioning his country as a right-wing bastion to prevent the disintegration of what he believes to be European values. "He rushes out against the 'mixing of races' and secures the votes of the Transylvanian Hungarians," wrote Schmid.
He explained that Hungary is special in the EU because, despite the rules, it believes that it can govern in another member state. He explained that, in his opinion, Trianon cannot be restored by Orbán, but
he and his government will do everything to link the territory to the motherland,
and in accordance with the politician's vision of history and politics, he integrates it into the great Hungarian empire based on thousand-year-old traditions. Because, according to him, it has always been a line of defense against non-Christian peoples. Of course, the fact that the Szeklers themselves are immigrants, having settled in the 12th century, does not really fit with this. The fact that they are probably of Turkish or even Mongolian origin does not fit the picture at all.
As a conclusion, he stated that all of this results in the economy developing on an ethnic basis, and Hungarian native speakers are separated from Romanians. He added that this is also true for politics.
According to the author, Viktor Orbán is consciously inciting the separation, and that this process started with Ceausescu. He added that such a nationalist, who joined Putin's barge, has absolutely no place in the EU.
