There are more and more people smugglers and they are becoming more and more aggressive, which is why border hunters are needed - Bence Rétvári, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, spoke about this in the current morning program of the M1 channel on Friday morning.
Bence Rétvári said: ten percent of the total of 19,000 prisoners in Hungary, about two thousand people, are foreign human traffickers, but in the Szeged penitentiary this proportion even exceeds twenty percent. And the captured foreigners - mainly Bulgarians, Serbs, Macedonians and Middle Easterners - mean a lot of additional tasks and expenses for the authorities, for example their accommodation or interpretation. Because of all this, a quarter of a billion forints more must be spent from the Hungarian budget every month , he said.
He added that despite the war going on next door, illegal migration is not decreasing, there are also more and more people smugglers and they are becoming more aggressive.
So far this year, 133,000 people, and 122,000 last year, have tried to enter the country illegally. In the big wave of illegal migration in 2015, around six hundred people smugglers were caught by the middle of the summer, while this year 999 were caught by Thursday. He said that the recent shooting in Subotica already indicated that the division of territory between the human trafficking gangs is taking place, and the fight for control over the migrant routes is going on between the criminal organizations.
He underlined that if the Hungarian state did not protect its borders with sufficient force, this could also happen in Hungary.
Meanwhile, in Brussels, they are working on speeding up the procedures against Hungary, they are inviting migrants to Europe, and the sending countries are not stabilizing either, which is why border hunters are needed, said the state secretary. He also spoke about the fact that the border hunters can appear on the southern border from September, first alongside the currently serving policemen, and then gradually taking over the guarding of the border from them.
The border guards carry out their tasks with a wide range of action rights and weapons, the arrest of illegal migration and people smugglers. He said that so far more than 7,700 people have inquired and the Ministry of the Interior is waiting for applications from people between the ages of 18 and 55 with no criminal record and in good physical condition.
