There is no realistic chance that the MSZP will be able to turn the tide until the 2024 European Parliament (EP) elections: too many parties broke away from the Socialist Party, meanwhile they elected leaders without character, and they failed to renew their voter base, said Zoltán Kiszelly, Századvég is the director of the Center for Political Analysis of the Hungarian Nation.

As can be read in the article published in the Thursday issue of the newspaper , after Nezőpont, the Idea Institute also measured one percent support for the former government party.

Zoltán Kiszelly put it this way: " The MSZP is coming to an end, even in April it only got into the National Assembly with the help of a technical agreement reached on the left. "

According to him, the question is whether the socialists will be able to renew themselves and turn the tide in the 2024 EP and municipal elections.

Since this would primarily require a leader with character, there is no realistic chance for this

said the analyst.

He said that since they cannot exceed the five percent threshold in the EP elections, and they cannot do without even running, the socialists - together with the other small parties - are expected to knock on Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the DK, again.

Their goal is that one or two of their politicians can appear in a good place on the joint list with the DK. Therefore, in return, the Gyurcsánys can expect support for their candidates in the local government elections, which can also result in new MSZP transfers to the DK - said Zoltán Kiszelly, adding: this will be a very thankless task, for this reason alone no one wants to undertake that the MSZP to be its "kamikaze co-chairman".

The analyst stated: Ferenc Gyurcsány still dominates the left, as he is better and more skilled than his rivals.
