A harvest festival and thematic programs presenting the traditions of folk fishing will be held on Saturday in the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park, where visitors can learn about the techniques of sourdough and bread-making, Csengele Kodácz, the facility's marketing manager, informed MTI.
In folk tradition, the feast of King Saint Stephen is associated with the breaking of new bread, the antecedent of which was the end of the harvest season.
On harvest day, the process of grain processing, sourdough making and bread baking will be presented in the memorial park. At the Szentes-Donát windmill in the open-air museum, visitors can learn about the steps involved in grinding bread grain.
There will be a sourdough workshop in the Hódmezővásárhely farm reading circle, where guests can learn about the tricks of using flour and homemade leaven, and then see how fresh homemade bread is baked in the oven.
Visitors will be treated to a number of entertaining and informative programs: the Por band will play authentic Hungarian folk music, the Hungarikum duo will play folk art music, the guests can see a puppet show by the Barboncás Társulat, the street theater of Gábor Boka and the performance Nagyboldogasszony – Little Lady.
There will be craft corners at the farmhouse in Makó and at the gate in Szeged-Alsóváros, where visitors can try windsurfing and making paper kites.
Last year, the memorial park launched - with EU support, in cooperation with the Zentai Historical Archives - a series of programs related to the Tisza, presenting traditional, close-to-nature farming. As part of this, a themed day will be organized on Saturday, where folk fishing tools will be presented, a presentation will be given about the water world of the Tisza river in the 19th and 20th centuries, and those interested can also hear about the wooden boats that once traveled the river.
