Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave an extensive interview to the German magazine Tichys Einblick. Although the full conversation will be published in the magazine's issue at the beginning of September, some interesting details are already available . – pointed out the news portal Ma7.sk from the highlands.
One of the strongest claims of the interview is that, unfortunately, the European Union will emerge from the Russian-Ukrainian conflict weaker than it was before it, while - says the Hungarian Prime Minister - other regions and other countries will be strengthened by it.
It is therefore easy to imagine, claims Orbán, that the Russian-Ukrainian war will "spectacularly put an end" to Western "superiority".
The Hungarian Prime Minister outlined his thoughts on the war along four central statements. We will certainly get to know them in more detail in the full interview, the trailer published on Tichys Einblick's website summarizes them in just four main sentences:
- In a military sense, the West cannot win the war in Ukraine.
- The sanctions did not destabilize Russia.
- On the other hand, Europe is suffering incredible damage because of them.
- The world did not line up behind Ukraine, the United States and the West.
A significant part of the world did not join the queue in protest: the Chinese, the Indians, the Brazilians, South Africa, the Arab world, Africa. (…) It is therefore easily possible that this will be the war that ends the supremacy of the West.
At the same time, Orbán said, there are plenty of people who will be able to profit from the war.
The solution is that those who have their own energy sources benefit. The Russians benefit. The European Union's imports from Russia decreased by a quarter, while Gazprom's revenues doubled. The Chinese, who have been at the mercy of the Arabs, are now profiting. (…) All of this is also useful for large American companies, Orbán noted, referring to how much the revenues of large American energy companies have grown since the outbreak of the war. Tichys Einblick writes that Exxon's income has doubled, Chevron's has quadrupled, while ConocoPhillips, which travels in Alaskan crude oil, can enjoy six times its income.
