Once again this year, the Prima Primissima Awards were received in ten categories by prominent representatives of Hungarian intellectual life, art, science and sport at the Friday gala evening held at Müpa.

This year, the candidates for the Prima Primissima Award could come from an even wider range than before, because several categories of recognition were expanded. The category of theater and cinematography was supplemented with dance, the category of visual arts with applied arts, and the category of the press with dissemination of knowledge.

In the Hungarian architecture category, Péter Sugár, architect, university professor; textile artist Hager Ritta in the Hungarian fine and applied arts category; in the category of Hungarian education and public education, master teacher Károly Härtlein; in the Hungarian science category, mathematician László Lovász; Bartók Rádió earned the recognition in the Hungarian information dissemination and media category.

In the Hungarian sports category, Olympic champion wrestler and master coach Csaba Hegedüs received the award.

In the category of Hungarian literature, poet, writer, playwright Péter Dobai; in the category of Hungarian folk art and public culture, forester Gyula Kovács, keeper of the old Hungarian fruit varieties; in the Hungarian music category, violinist András Keller, conductor; and in the Hungarian theatre, film and dance category, the actor László Gálffi received the prize of HUF 15 million each.

The Audience Award, also worth HUF 15 million, went to television journalist and editor Krisztina Hadas.

Sándor Csányi, chairman of the board of trustees of the Prima Primissima Foundation, recalled in his welcome that the last time the gala was held in front of the general public was in 2019.

In the period that has passed since then, the foundation has been operating, but in 2020, due to the pandemic, it was thought that instead of traditional awards, they would rather help non-governmental organizations operating in the field of health care that are in a difficult situation. And in 2021, due to the epidemic, the event was only held in a narrow circle.

"We are not only celebrating the award winners this year, but also the twenty-year-old Prima Primissima Award, which was created at the initiative of Sándor Demján and found widespread social support," emphasized Sándor Csányi, adding that although the epidemic is less threatening, it cannot be celebrated without a cloud.

There is a war next door, and many people find themselves in an existential predicament due to the country's economic situation, the energy crisis, supply insecurity and high inflation.

In this situation, we have a great responsibility to support scientists, artists, and athletes so that they do not have to stop their activities due to difficulties, he added.

He explained that this year a total of 652 valid nominations were received from previous awardees and professional organizations. He emphasized: in recent years, it has been proven that not only the Prima Primissima, but also the Prima award is a significant recognition, as being in the top three in any field requires an extremely high level of talent, dedication, commitment and effort.

"What connects the individual categories is the competition, it gives birth to the achievements and life paths that distinguish the best from the others", emphasized Sándor Csányi, adding that the recognition and presentation of these achievements "strengthens our national self-esteem, our will to do and provides an incentive for present and future generations. It feeds the hope that everything can be achieved with hard work and perseverance in a fair competition".
