If the European Commission approaches the negotiations on EU funds on a professional and not an ideological basis, then the analyst of the Nézőpont Institute considers the legislative changes of the Hungarian government, which he informed the body about in the response letter sent at the beginning of the week, in the garden of the rule of law and conditionality procedure, to be sufficient.
Rezső Krisztián Erdélyi also spoke on the Karc FM Tuner show that the Hungarian side is capable of compromises and willing to make corrections, but considering that Brussels is withholding the resources that are rightfully theirs in the case of Hungary and Poland, and that parliamentary elections will be held in Warsaw next year, does not consider political pressure from the EU institution unthinkable.
The political scientist also warned that it is not possible to win elections from Brussels, and that political work can be saved by the politicians of the Gyurcsány party posting on social media on a daily basis: "we are getting ready".
The analyst emphasized: the members of the European Parliament of DK and Momentum would have the opportunity not to slow down the negotiations on EU resources with all their might, but this does not suit their political interests.
Ferenc Gyurcsány and other left-liberal politicians assume that a weakened Fidesz-KDNP from Brussels will strengthen their position, but they do not take into account the fact that Hungarian citizens vote in the election and not EU bureaucrats.
The analyst of the Nézőpont Institute explained to Karc FM that the leaders of the two major opposition parties realized that a coalition of 6-7 actors is difficult to coordinate and does not represent a real alternative to the government parties. Thus, based on institutional or case-by-case agreements, DK and Momentum will try to dominate the left-liberal side in the 2024 municipal elections, and members of the smaller parties may decide to join them with their political survival in mind, or risk their existence until then.
In connection with the Vodafone deal, which was attacked by the opposition, the political scientist pointed out that IT and telecommunications are the 21st century. prosperous and significant income-generating area of the 20th century.
As for the timing: now is the moment when the English company is willing to part with its interest in Hungary, and it will cost the Hungarian state significantly less money than a similar investment in the case of the Czechs with another mobile service provider. The Hungarian government will pay less than half of the EUR 1.8 billion purchase price for the transaction, while it previously cost Prague EUR 2.8 billion to enter the telecommunications sector. Krisztián Rezső Erdélyi emphasized: the purchase of Vodafone also includes the possibility of regional expansion, which can mean significant additional income for the Hungarian budget.
