Prime Minister Viktor Orbán discussed economic and energy cooperation and closer cultural and educational relations with Uzbek President Savkat Mirziyoyev in Samarkand, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister's press chief, informed MTI on Thursday.

Savkat Mirzijoyev said: Hungarian businessmen and companies are welcome in Uzbekistan, and they are given all the help they need to make their investments successful.

Viktor Orbán talked about: in the current war and sanctions crisis, the whole of Europe, including Hungary, is fighting to not lose its economic momentum. However, even in this situation, we do not slow down, and even increase the intensity of cooperation with our strategic partner in the region, Uzbekistan, he stated. We are strengthening the joint projects started in the fields of nuclear energy, chemical industry, finance and telecommunications, Viktor Orbán added.

The prime minister explained: since the energy crisis in the world will continue for a long time, we are trying to find joint gas extraction opportunities with Uzbekistan. Viktor Orbán also announced that the number of Hungarian scholarships provided to Uzbek students will be increased from 120 to 170 per year - Bertalan Havasi explained what was said at the hearing.
