Gábor Horn, head of the Republikon Institute, predicted a gas shortage and the introduction of a coal blackout in schools on ATV's Tuesday broadcast. Former state secretary Ferenc Gyurcsány attacked the utility reduction in the program, which he claimed a month ago that the government was in the process of abolishing. The Mediaworks News Center also recalled Horn's earlier similar ideas, in which he proclaimed the omnipotence of the market against official prices.
On Tuesday, the former State Secretary Ferenc Gyurcsány again argued against the overhead reduction, while he came up with horror stories far removed from reality in ATV. The program discussed the situation of the domestic gas supply, doubting whether there would be enough in the heating season. “So what is the truth? Or now actually, so it's now two months, six months, one month, what will happen here in the winter?" - asked Gábor Horn. The head of the Republikon Institute then began to explain that in the winter of the 1960s there was a "coal break" in schools because there was not enough fuel for heating in Hungary. "I don't think it's completely out of the question that this will happen, for example, but the minister said that it's definitely not," he immediately added the refutation.
Later in the program, the former secretary of state of the Gyurcsány government criticized the utility reduction. "Now you can see how damn harmful it was, excuse me, this whole overhead reduction, because the processes that we are missing now by making them artificially cheap, which, by the way, were sometimes more expensive than energy carriers elsewhere in Hungary. "He didn't even bring up the possibility - not the necessity - of those steps that most of Hungary is struggling with," said Gábor Horn.
This is not the first time that the former SZDSZ politician has attacked utility reductions and official prices in general. In the broadcast of N1TV on May 28, he also believed in the omnipotence of the market in relation to gasoline price regulation, explaining that he is otherwise a market fundamentalist and thinks that there is nothing better than the market in the world, therefore direct state intervention like the price cap is unacceptable. holds.
In July, he wrote on the Republikon Institute's Facebook page that he thought "the moment of truth has come, what had to collapse has collapsed, the limitless lie covered by public money has been exposed: the overhead reduction cannot be sustained any longer." According to Horn, Viktor Orbán is eliminating "perhaps the most unfair support system on Earth."
The reality, in contrast to all this, is that the utility reduction still exists, up to the level of average consumption, all Hungarian households have access to gas and electricity well below the market price, moreover, in the government briefing on Tuesday, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás announced further discounts, which is precisely in the spirit of justice it helps those with a lower calorific value of gas.
Regarding the winter heating season, the Ministry of the Interior has already indicated that no decision, order or instruction has yet been made, nor has there been any legislation regarding the heating of schools. They stated that it has been in force for decades that schools must be heated to at least 20 degrees Celsius. That doesn't mean you can't do more. The heating of educational institutions has been solved everywhere - emphasized the Ministry of the Interior. So there is no question of preparing for a "coal break" in schools. The government is constantly acquiring additional gas sources, and the already mentioned Tuesday's government information officer Gergely Gulyás also said that there are currently 3.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas in Hungarian gas storages, which is enough for 76 winter days, if residential and industrial consumption are also taken into account. This amount represents enough gas for half a year for residential consumption only.
