They don't want the American people to pay for the measures.
Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Russian goods are still pouring into the United States because they do not want the American population to pay the price of the measures, according to the AP News article.
Despite Joe Biden's promise that they will deal a crushing blow to Vladimir Putin's country, for now the restrictions only apply to products such as vodka, diamonds or fuel.
However, hundreds of other Russian products can still be imported into the United States.
More than 3,600 ships arrived
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, more than 3,600 ships have arrived in American ports loaded with Russian lumber, metal, rubber and other goods. There are imports whose ban would do much more damage to the American economy than to Russia.
The purchase of certain products can be solved with the help of alternative sources, but this possibility may not even arise for others.
Fertilizer, for example, is like this: its import is explicitly supported by the Washington government, since the February invasion, more than a hundred shipments have arrived in the country.
