The laws proposed for change, which were sent by the cabinet in response to the union's procedure, do not cause a loss of prestige for the government - this is what Minister Tibor Navracsics told ATV News , adding that, in his opinion, there are no insurmountable contradictions between the positions.
"Basically, the topic of the negotiations was not the general political context in Hungary. Rather, it is how the Hungarian government can present the guarantees that make the use of EU funds reassuring for Brussels or the Commission," explained the Minister of Regional Development.
He believed that Hungary's negotiating position cannot be shaken even if state leaders make anti-EU statements. The minister did not hide the fact that the government carefully considered the specific legislative proposals sent, but according to him, they do not undermine the cabinet's authority:
"It was a difficult decision. Does it mean a loss of prestige? I would say no, because then we probably wouldn't have accepted it. At the same time, there were some that were difficult decisions," he added.
