The last section between Székesfehérvár and Balatonakarattya was also handed over, so it is now possible to cycle all the way from the border of the capital to the eastern shore of Lake Balaton in safe and comfortable conditions, reported the M1 News.
If you want to bypass Lake Balaton and go to Budapest, you don't have to take a train or a car, but you can get here on the Budapest-Balaton bicycle route. We have defined a route that is spectacular and interesting from a tourist point of view - this was reported by Máriusz Révész, State Secretary responsible for active Hungary.
The entire route is 108 kilometers long. In June, the section from Budapest to Etyek was put into traffic, in July it was extended to Lake Velencei, and now to Balatonakaratty.
The government spokesperson said: since 2018, the government has spent HUF 10-12 billion on such developments in addition to EU funds.
"Within the European Union, with our 16 percent share, we are the third most cycling nation, so I think that if this enthusiasm is already there, it is very good that it is associated and paired with the appropriate infrastructure, we will obviously continue these bicycle path developments in the coming years as well . Not only because it is a fantastically good sport and very good recreation, but also because it can help domestic tourism a lot," said Alexandra Szentkirályi.
The government spokesperson explained that at the EU level, the 3rd most cycling nation is Hungary, and last year is a record because there have never been as many people cycling in Hungary as in 2021.
