A fantastic double success at the U16 World Water Polo Championship in Greece: both the Hungarian girls' and boys' teams won gold medals in the final against the hosts, i.e. the Greeks!
On Saturday, the József Sike was interested in the final against the Greeks in Larissa. The girls got off to a flying start in the final and led by four goals at the end of the first quarter when it came time to make up. The Katás of Hajdú managed their advantage very well, the score was 6-4 at halftime and 8-6 after the third quarter.
In the final act, all questions were resolved, because Tiba Panna and then Lendvay Zoé quickly scored, and then the excellent defense kept the final result: the Hungarian team became world champions with a 10-6 victory! The most successful player of the match was Zoé Lendvay, who scored four goals.
Then the boys tried to achieve a similar success in Volos, in the same way in the World Cup final against the Greeks. Zoltán Dávid's team went head-to-head with their rivals throughout, the Hellenes went 6-5 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter, the Hungarian team took the lead and waited 10-9 for the last eight minutes.
In an extremely tight match, the Greeks equalized with a little more than two and a half minutes left in the match, but András Tóth scored another Hungarian goal with only 24 seconds left - and it lasted until the final whistle. The Hungarian national team became the world champion with an 11-10 victory! The exceptional team unity of the boys is indicated by the fact that a total of nine different players made it to the finals!
