Last year, around 59,000 mothers with four or more children were exempted from paying personal income tax, and the tax exemption left HUF 25 billion for those involved in 2021, András Tállai informed MTI.

Thanks to the tax exemption, large families will have HUF 3.5 billion more in 2021 than in 2020, added the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Finance.

Since 2011, families have been able to count on an increasing number of government subsidies, two of which - the discount for first-time married couples introduced in 2015 and the tax exemption for mothers with four or more children starting in 2020 - are also unique in the European Union, stressed András Tállai . He reminded her that as of January 1, 2020, women who have four or more children do not have to pay a single penny of personal income tax (PIT) on their income from employment. The exemption can also be claimed from the tax advance, so it can be read from the data that more and more people took advantage of the opportunity month by month. While in the first month of the measure's introduction, in January 2020, 38,000, for example, in December 2021, more than 49,000 mothers claimed the discount from their tax advance.

Almost ten thousand people "forgot" to take advantage of the discount from the tax advance last year, and only indicated that they were entitled to it in their tax return for 2020 and used the rule offering exemption. Thus, last year 58,600 mothers with four or more children were exempted from the social security payment obligation, the state secretary concluded.

Among the detailed rules of the tax exemption András Tállai highlighted: the exemption applies not only to biological children, but also to adopted children, adult children must also be taken into account, and the family discount can also be used. The mother can claim the child allowance for minors either from her own employee contribution or jointly with the father, explained the state secretary.
