On Thursday, the court will start hearing the personal rights lawsuit that Hann Endre, head of the Median polling company, initiated against Megafilm Kft., in connection with the movie Elkxrtuk. The leader of Median, which is close to the political left, complained that Endré, who appeared in the film released last October, was modeled after him, who, as the director of a polling institute, manipulates public opinion with false data, and also influences political life as a decisive background figure.
On the other hand, the owner-producer of Megafilm Kft., Gábor Kálomista, argues that it is a feature film, which is a fictional genre, not an investigative documentary. In compiling the Mediaworks News Center, he also reminds that Median previously received hundreds of millions of orders from the governments led by Ferenc Gyurcsány, and personal connections also prove the left-wing affiliation.
Hann Endre, the head of the Median polling company, told Index back in March that they are asking the court to determine HUF three million damages in the civil lawsuit. The lawyers representing Endré Hann in the proceedings are using the film itself, as well as statements made in Megafilm Kft.'s public communications, as evidence. They also include the fact that Endre Hann received a personal invitation from the mega-filmmakers to the film's premiere, in which it was written that he himself was in the film.
The lawsuit filed requests the correction of three statements made in the film, which Hann called untrue. That Hann and Median "published opinion poll results indicating that the support of the then-governing MSZP-SZDSZ government coalition was higher than what was actually measured, and that the support of Fidesz in the opposition was lower than what was actually measured." Furthermore, I would also correct that Hann was an important participant in the political decision-making of the government at the time, who was in contact with György Szilvásy, the minister without portfolio overseeing the civilian national security services. The third objectionable provision in the film is that the head of Median participated in the leaking of Öszöd's speech.
