Tucker Carlson devoted a longer segment to the European energy crisis in his program on August 30th. According to the most watched TV commentator in the United States, "Europe is falling into poverty" and "moving backwards at high speed", Origo reports on the program.
In his introduction, the American presenter talked about how, based on the heating techniques of the previous year, we get a picture of a modern state. He cited as an example that in 2021, only 6 percent of Germans will be heated with firewood. Tucker Carlson, that has changed dramatically. In Germany, the demand for firewood grew so fast that there was no one left to buy from. You can't get it! So the desperate Germans are cutting down their own trees, walking the streets like their ancestors to find fuel. (…) Now it is called biomass, but it is wood. They burn wood, like in feudalism.
Tucker Carlson also reported that residential customers in Poland are waiting in such long lines to buy coal that they have to sleep in their cars. The presenter quotes the account of a Polish citizen, who says that it reminds him of the times of communism, that he was forced to do this, and that the situation is even worse today.
Moving on in Europe, France, once a major energy exporter, is now being forced to limit its own energy consumption, and in the UK 70 percent of restaurants are planning to close because they won't be able to pay their heating bills. According to Tucker Carlson, the basic condition of modern civilization is cheap energy, which is no longer available for Europe.
"It looks like if you can't get cheap natural gas, the continent can't function, " said the commentator.
In the language of numbers, it all looks like last week electricity was "only" 700 euros per megawatt hour, while in a single week the new record was set at over 1,000 euros. Oil prices doubled, the price of coal increased fourfold, and that of natural gas sevenfold (!).
He also reported that the so-called The people of "Davos" are trying to provide cheap energy with the green transition, but "they didn't know what they were talking about, they didn't know anything about the subject. (…) The so-called green energy is not within reach, it is nowhere near enough to replace natural gas, oil and coal. (…) The Green New Deal means what it has always meant: poverty. And its proponents have always known this, they don't actually believe that climate change is an imminent threat. If they really believed that climate change was an imminent existential threat, the first thing, the very first thing they would have done was to ban private jets, the presenter expressed his opinion.
Tucker Carlson reminded that four years ago, Donald Trump already warned Germany to change its energy policy, otherwise it will be completely dependent on Russia. The German delegation laughed at him for his words, as the host shows in the archive footage.
The presenter also drew attention to the fact that the winter cold has been responsible for more deaths than global warming, and this time the coming of winter threatens even greater dangers for Europe. As for economic aspects, factories will close, unemployment will increase, incomes will disappear, savings will fall, and indebtedness will increase. The negative consequences will have a global effect. However, economic leaders are apparently not preoccupied with economic challenges. Tucker Carlson quotes the US Federal Reserve's statement, in which they report that their team has never been more diverse in its 109-year history.
According to Carlson, raising interest rates will stifle the demand side of the economy, while the crisis is purely a supply challenge. The war in Ukraine and the sanctions are clearly responsible.
– Europe responded to the war with sanctions, which they knew would eventually lead to energy shortages. (…) Will the Russian economy suffer from the sanctions? They caused food and energy shortages in the West. No, the Russian economy will not suffer from the sanctions. Russia has more energy than it can use or sell. They have so much excess natural gas that they simply burn it, said Tucker Carlson.
According to the host, the only solution is to end the war and restore Russian energy supplies to Europe , in order to save the economy, including the American economy. According to Carlson, Western leaders are not taking any steps for peace, so the global economy cannot be saved.
This is how the Fox News host concludes his thought process:
– By all reality-based standards, Vladimir Putin is on course to win the war in Ukraine. And Joe Biden tells Putin that we will not stop until you surrender unconditionally. That's not bad policy, that's madness. It makes no sense, it would only make sense if the goal was to completely destroy the West and pave the way for Chinese global dominance. What other explanation could there be for this behavior?
