In the next decade, Hungary can be a winner if it changes from a work-based society to a knowledge-based society - stated László György, the Secretary of State responsible for innovation and higher education of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, on Wednesday in Budapest, at the conference of the National Vocational and Adult Education Office.
The state secretary responsible for innovation and higher education of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation stated that HUF 2,700 billion will be allocated to the development of higher education in the next period
László György stated: for this purpose
the government doubled the funding of universities, strengthened the vocational training system, increased the salary of teachers working in vocational training by 30 percent, encouraged adult education and practical professional training, and in the next period HUF 2,700 billion will go to the development of higher education.
The conference was organized on the occasion that Hungary participates in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) International Adult Skills and Competence Assessment Program (PIAAC). In it, the basic competencies used by adults in everyday life and at work are assessed, such as text comprehension, reading and arithmetic skills, and problem-solving skills in an information technology environment.
László György emphasized that the program fits the goal of creating a knowledge-based society. Its implementation helps to
"Let's rescue Hungary from the trap of middle-income countries and bring it into the camp of developed countries," he insisted.
He added that the project helps to learn about the ambitions and preparedness of the demand side, i.e. the employees, after the reform of the supply side of the training system. Because it is only possible to offer appropriate training, vocational training and higher education training to employees if we assess their skill and knowledge level, said László György.
This is particularly important during the current economic crisis, when we have to reckon with the transformation of the labor market, the state secretary said.
He also talked about the development of a labor market forecasting system that collects and analyzes data generated by labor market actors, which helps in the planning of adult training programs that meet market needs.
The career tracking system for vocational and adult education started operating in the summer. With the help of this, adult trainers can receive feedback on the effectiveness of the training programs they have implemented - said László György.
