One of the largest churches in the Diocese of Debrecen-Nyíregyházi, the 164-year-old civic Church of the Assumption, designed by József Hild, has been renovated, and was blessed by County Bishop Ferenc Palánki on September 4, as part of the Holy Mass.

At the beginning of the Holy Mass, children expressed in verse what the church means to them, and then the lay president István Gulyás greeted the chief pastor.

In the county bishop's homily, he taught about unity and the church.

The local choir with guitar played a musical service. The Mass ended with the singing of the hymn. The celebration continued with Agape and an informal conversation, in which Bishop Ferenc Palánki also participated.

The church in the heart of the city has been damaged over time, and although minor repairs were carried out during the previous parishes, the civil Catholic parish still considered a complete renovation necessary. After unsuccessful applications, they turned to the Episcopal Office of the Diocese of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza for help, and to their delight they received significant support.

After the preparations, the renovation could begin in 2020. The investment was led by entrepreneur Tamás Tóth. During the two-year works, the church tower and the external facade were renovated. The work was completed in the summer of 2022.
