The heads of four polling companies denied to the 444.hu news portal the statement of the leader of the opposition campaign, Péter Zaránd, and the campaign managers of the parties, that the results of the parliamentary elections could not be foreseen.
Pollsters Zoltán Ember (Compass Institute), Endre Hann (Median, in our picture), Róna Dániel (21 Research Center) and Tibor Zavecz (Závecz Research) responded to the accusations from the opposition parties that the pollsters had put them to sleep, essentially misled them by the six-party opposition in the parliamentary election campaign, especially in its finale. According to the opposition, the fact that "they received such weak research materials during the campaign that it was not possible to predict that they would fail like this" also contributed to their election defeat.
It is clear from the statements of the researchers that in personal meetings with the leaders of the opposition's campaign, they were very clearly informed that "if this continues, the opposition will hardly win constituencies in the countryside. This will be a disaster.” As we know, the left won only two of the eighty-eight districts in the countryside, one in Szeged (Sándor Szabó) and one in Pécs (Tamás Mellár).
Together with Iránytú, we already did research in November that revealed that the opposition is in a bad position, said Dániel Róna (21 Research Center). "Bandi (Hann Endre, Median) made a public forecast in March: he said 50-40 percent, fifty to Fidesz, forty to the opposition."
A Závecz survey was also made public, and it revealed that the support of Péter Márki-Zay dropped to the level of the support of Ferenc Gyurcsány among undecided voters. So they received a lot of signals, but they didn't believe them - the 444.hu article reveals. The pollsters also produced non-public research for the opposition parties, which indicated that they could not expect much good, but "they also allowed themselves to look stupid."
