ARS SACRA FOUNDATION

In his encyclical Ecclesia in Europa, Pope János Paul I called on Europe's major cities to renew themselves, so that we can present the richness of our faith to the world with a new impetus, in accordance with the challenges of the present. At the initiative of our Holy Father, the plan of city missions was formulated with the joint decision of the archpastors of Vienna, Paris, Lisbon and Brussels, as well as with the support of the Emmanuel Community. The Capital soon joined the initiative, Cardinal Péter Erdő announced 2007 as the year of city mission in Budapest.

Founders Márta Dragonits, Ildikó Kolek, and Ilona Toroczkay - they thought that by getting involved in the large-scale mission task, they would use the arts to address the inhabitants of the city of Budapest of different religions and worldviews, and organize the Ars Sacra Festival and the Day of Open Temples.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic feedback, the Ars Sacra Foundation was created in 2008, the aim of which is to bring to the surface and popularize sacredness within the various art forms. Thus, since 2007, on the third week of September every year, at the same time as the Cultural Heritage Days, we have organized the Ars Sacra Festival with its accompanying events, the Day of Open Churches and, since 2016, the Ars Sacra Film Festival. With their series of cultural programs of high artistic quality, they provide the opportunity for all people who are receptive to beauty and good to get closer to real values and the Truth by lifting their eyes, heart and soul with the help of the hope filtered through the arts and the beauty inherent in our devalued world. The initiative, which started in Budapest, became national, and then, crossing borders, the real values are being promoted and strengthened in an ever larger circle: the demand for beautiful, good and true peace.

Last year, the Ars Sacra Foundation organized the cultural programs of the 52nd Eucharistic Congress.

The Éltető Lélek Alápítvány from Miskolc, among others, successfully joined the initiative of the Ars Sacra Foundation last year. This allowed local programs to receive national publicity. This year, the programs partially organized by the foundation's activities have been integrated into the national festival system, and we also support local cultural events that are worthy of getting to know these values nationally. For almost every day of the ARS SACRA festival, we managed to organize high-level and unique programs that provide a special experience for the national and local audiences. We welcome all those interested in cultural programs with an economic spirit.
