This is not what the Commission promised when it introduced the sanctions - reminded Fidesz EP representative Ursula von der Leyen.
Tamás Deutsch, MEP representative of Fidesz-KDNP, will also participate in the debate day of the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday.
In his speech, the representative said that "as the Jewish child of a Holocaust survivor, he knows exactly what the inhuman destruction of war is like. We are all on the side of the attacked," Deutsch stated.
He then recalled that when the sanctions were adopted at the beginning of the summer, the European Commission promised that "they will bring Russia to its knees. They promised that the sanctions would be tough on Russia, not the European people.
They promised that the sanctions would bring an end to the war. But even now we do not see the end of the war
he emphasized.
"People in Europe have become poorer and Russia has become richer"
"At the same time, energy prices have skyrocketed in Europe. Russia, on the other hand, gained revenues of an unprecedented amount," the Fidesz representative pointed out.
"On the other hand, since the introduction of the sanctions, inflation has been galloping,
European people became poorer and Russia became richer.
And in Europe, there is a threat of crisis and energy shortage," the representative pointed out.
"Dear Madam President! This is not what the Commission promised when it introduced the sanctions," Tamás Deutsch addressed Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission.
