In a few days, the bills necessary for the EU agreement will be submitted, according to the minister, an agreement with the union can be reached by December.
As previously written by several sources, Reuters, referring to two EU officials, believed that if no agreement is reached between Hungary and the European Union, then up to 70 percent of the catch-up subsidies intended for Hungary in the 2021-2027 cycle (approximately 15 billion euros, i.e. 6,000 billion HUF) can be withheld by the Union.
Telex is now writing that the minister without portfolio responsible for the use of EU funds, Tibor Navracsics, reacted to this information on Wednesday evening in ATV's Egyenes beszéd program. Navracsics said that
even informally, the Hungarian side did not receive information about such a decision.
According to the minister, the aim now is to develop a level of trust between Hungary and the European Union, so that they will be able to negotiate effectively so that Hungary does not lose out on subsidies. "If they see that all the legislation comes into being, then maybe we will reach the level of trust when the Commission says that it is possible to cooperate with the Hungarian side," he said in the program.
Telex added: according to this, next week, the legislative proposals, which must be adopted in order for the bond of trust to be formed, will be submitted to the Hungarian Parliament. This is primarily a planned anti-corruption authority that oversees the spending of EU funds.
We are interested in the establishment of an institution that enjoys public trust, which can monitor, control and serve as a reference point," said Navracsics.
The European Commission has until September 22 to give an official answer on how it evaluates Hungary's intention to reach an agreement.
If things go well, an agreement can be reached with the European Union by November or December of this year and the - otherwise legitimate - resources will be available.
