At the press conference following the ceremony, the Prime Minister said: "the European left has taken over the European Parliament" and the report on Hungary is a boring joke.

The Prime Minister met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and received the Order of Merit of the Republic of Serbia from him for his services to the development of cooperation and relations between the two countries. At the joint press conference that followed, Viktor Orbán emphasized: the nature of sanctions is that they are usually decided on in places that are safe and far from the country against which they are imposed.

It is easy to make a policy of sanctions from Paris, Brussels, Madrid, but maybe even from Berlin"

- he said, adding: "however, we are closer to the sanctioned country, Russia".

He believed that those who are closer "always suffer more", so there is nothing surprising in the fact that the Hungarian point of view is radically different from the one in Brussels. Moreover, the strong used to impose sanctions on the weak, but now "we Europeans, who are energy dwarfs, are imposing sanctions on an energy giant", which is a completely unusual phenomenon in history, he explained.

The Prime Minister emphasized:

these sanctions are causing us very serious damage, they are bad for us, they are painful, they cost a lot of money, and they threaten to eat away a significant part of our successes that we have achieved in the last ten years."

He said: therefore, the sanction that was "invented by the Westerners" today does not serve the interests of Hungary, "in fact, it poses an extremely serious danger for us". And the most worrying thing about the whole thing is that "while we are entering an increasingly serious economic crisis", it is quite obvious that if the sanctions were repealed, the situation would immediately improve, he opined.

Viktor Orbán stated: therefore, he will always argue in favor of the European Union not applying sanctions that hurt more here in Central Europe than the person they are applied to.

When asked about the European Parliament's report on Hungary adopted on Thursday, the Prime Minister said:

we don't laugh at it just because we're bored; it's a boring joke, it's the third or fourth time they're doing it to accept the resolution condemning Hungary in the European Parliament".

He noted: "at first we thought it was important, but now we see it as a joke".

He explained: "the European left has taken over the European Parliament" and "our former party alliance", the European People's Party, is also constantly moving to the left.

And the quality of the accepted document is simply classified as political propaganda or pamphlets"

- He told.

When receiving the award, Viktor Orbán said that he sees the recognition as encouragement for what he will do next for the sake of Hungarian-Serbian friendship. "István Széchenyi has already established that the interests of Serbia and Hungary are so closely intertwined that they must be friends, so when the current Hungarian government works for Serbian-Hungarian friendship, it fulfills a very old Hungarian recognition," he emphasized.

He stated: Hungary is a country that should be friends with Serbia. "They also have a common cause, they must protect the southern gate of Europe together, this is both the mission and the responsibility of the two countries," said the prime minister.
