Although the whole world is paying attention to the Russian-Ukrainian war, the danger of illegal migration has not gone away, in fact, it has intensified, said the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of the Interior in Budapest.

Bence Rétvári said goodbye to the members of the 77th Hungarian police contingent that was leaving for North Macedonia, emphasizing that security is important for all Hungarians, and that Hungarians have repeatedly stated that they see illegal migration as a danger.

The state secretary added: 178,000 illegal border crossings have been prevented at Hungary's southern border so far this year, compared to 73,000 in the first nine months of last year, and 122,000 throughout the year. That is why it is justified to "take steps" to stop illegal migration not only at the Hungarian border, but also in Northern Macedonia, the Balkan route of illegal migration, he said.

The 16,000 people who were arrested at the Macedonian border certainly did not reach the Hungarian border, he pointed out, noting that Hungary has so far sent 2,185 police officers to the Macedonian border in order to stop illegal migration.

Bence Rétvári praised the police for being able to set up the border hunter regiment in a short time in the middle of summer, 500 border hunters have already taken the oath after the training and the training of another 175 has started. This also shows "the strength and striking ability of the Hungarian police", he noted.
