On the third day of her visit to the United States, President Katalin Novák was informed about the US migration situation at the wall on the US-Mexico border, during which she also presented a high-ranking state award.

The head of state visited Edith Eger, writer, psychologist, Holocaust survivor, born in Hungary and of Jewish origin, at her home in San Diego.

KATALIN NOVÁK PRESENTED AN AWARD OF THE CENTRAL CROSS OF THE HUNGARIAN ORDER OF HONOR TO THE 95-YEAR-OLD THERAPIST WHO GAINED A FAME IN THE TREATMENT OF POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME.

Edit Éger started her career as a psychologist with the intention of alleviating the suffering caused by her own wartime trauma. His memoir A Döntés, published in 2017, is about his time in the Nazi concentration camp, which was on the bestseller lists of The New York Times and The Sunday Times. His second book, The Gift - 12 Lessons on How to Save Our Lives, was published in 2020. In her statement to the public media, Edit Éger said that the "Hungarian heart and soul will always live, for a long time", and added that she will always be Hungarian as long as she lives.

On Thursday, Katalin Novák visited the border wall on the Californian section of the US-Mexico border, where a local agent of the US Customs and Border Protection provided information on current migration experiences.

TO THE INTEREST OF THE HEAD OF STATE, THE BORDER GUARD SAID THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FACED WITH INCREASING MIGRATION PRESSURE IN THE PAST YEARS, MAINLY IN TEXAS, BUT THEY ARE ALSO ATTEMPTING IN CALIFORNIA AGAINST THE WALL.

He added that maintaining national security is their priority, but they are currently struggling with a lack of resources and, above all, a lack of personnel.

The official programs of Katalin Novák's visit to the United States will continue this weekend in Los Angeles, where, among other things, she will give a lecture at the university about the experiences of Hungarian family support measures, meet Hungarian scientists living on the west coast, local Jewish community leaders, and then on Sunday she will participate in the family day of the Reformed Hungarian community too.

FROM CALIFORNIA, THE HEAD OF STATE WILL TRAVEL TO THE MIDWESTERN STATES OF THE UNITED STATES, WHERE HE WILL GIVE A LECTURE AND ALSO MEET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF LOCAL HUNGARIAN ORGANIZATIONS.

The head of state spent the first two days of his official visit to the United States in New York, where he addressed the UN General Assembly, participated in the UN Women Heads of State and Government Forum, held talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and had a meeting with Ronald Lauder, the president of the World Jewish Congress, and the head of several other international American Jewish organizations.
