On his Facebook page, Péter Szijjártó shared what happened before/after his interview with CNN, when he had a long conversation with host Richard Quest. Several topics were discussed, the reporter asked the head of Hungarian diplomacy how he was doing, to which the foreign minister replied that we are suffering from the consequences of the war and sanctions".
Richard Quest replied that he fully understands that Hungary is in a difficult situation. At the same time, he stated that our country has put itself in a good position by continuing to purchase oil and gas. So this can be a bit of a relief," the CNN presenter continued.
Péter Szijjártó answered that there is a good agreement with Gazprom and they are supplying for the time being, which is very important, because if they don't supply, the country won't be able to function either.
Quest asked what opportunities Hungary has in the long term, and Péter Szijjártó said that Azerbaijan would be an option, but that would require huge developments, the American Exxon had a big project in Romania, and they signed an agreement with them, which would have entered into force next year.
Three billion cubic meters would have arrived annually, but the project was abandoned. There is a large field in Romania, but no one wants to start mining at the moment," explained Péter Szijjártó, "because according to the Americans, it would not be worth it financially.
Quest then said that he is looking forward to visiting Hungary, the only thing he needs to decide is when would be the best time to visit Budapest.
"It's always best to come to us," said Szijjártó, and then Quest laughed at the fact that the only thing left to do was have a good time.
