President Katalin Novák spoke about the protection of human life, the support of families and true freedom based on Hungarian family policy and her own conservative values on Monday, the 7th day of her visit to the United States at Benedictine College, a Christian university in the state of Kansas.

In his presentation, the head of state dealt with what real freedom and its fulfillment mean to him. Part of this, as he put it, is that no one has to follow the mainstream, that they have a choice and can really speak, think and live freely. True freedom also includes defining oneself not as a creator, but as a part of creation, as a created being, being aware of one's boundaries and knowing one's own limitations, he pointed out.

True freedom also means the knowledge that one is not the only creature, but exists in a community, which shows that the individual is not the goal, but must also respect other members of the community, and is free to respect others, he added.

Speaking about the protection of human life, the head of state emphasized that everything starts with education, which shows the beauty of human life and also teaches where human life begins. Looking at the steps taken in Hungary, he mentioned as an example that pregnant women planning an abortion must attend counseling twice in order to consider the decision, which is also about a human life. He called the fact that state family benefits can be used even during pregnancy, as well as the fact that Hungary has accelerated the adoption procedure, an important measure.

He spoke of financial support for families as another important point of Hungarian family policy, and drew attention to the fact that 6.2 percent of Hungary's GDP is currently allocated to this purpose.

In his speech to the university's faculty and students, he cited the provisions of the Hungarian Basic Law regarding families, according to which marriage is between a man and a woman, and that the mother is a woman and the father is a man.

Katalin Novák emphasized in her presentation in the crowded lecture hall of the higher education institution that she visited there because young people represent hope.

In response to the students' questions, the Head of State also spoke about the Hungarian Child Protection Act, saying that its essence is that parents have the primary responsibility for raising their children, and, as he put it, "we must treat our children with respect". In addition, the aim of the legislation was to call attention to the so-called woke and LGBTQ propaganda, which, according to the head of state, is not about respecting others, but about the opposite, about "they don't respect our children".

The head of state was asked about the European Commission's proposal to suspend Hungarian EU subsidies, for which the head of state cited the speech given by the president of the European Commission at Princeton University as an example. In his speech a few days earlier, the head of the committee stated in response to a question about the results of the Italian elections - which were still expected at the time - and their consequences: if things go in a difficult direction after the elections, then Brussels has the tools, just like in the case of Hungary and Poland. According to the assessment of the President of the Republic, this was an open admission of the fact that, in the end, people are politically punished for electing leaders that others do not want. "For me, this goes completely against democracy," said Katalin Novák.

On Monday afternoon, the head of state and the Sándor Palace delegation visited the training center of the Sporting Kansas City football team, where they met Dániel Sallói, a player of the club, a multiple Hungarian national team footballer, with whom they watched the Italy-Hungary national team match in the last round of the Nations League.

Katalin Novák's visit to the United States ends on Tuesday in Cleveland at an event for local Hungarians.
