On October 8, the Feast of Our Lady of Magyars, from 6:30 p.m., the Emmanuel Community, the Flame of Love Movement, the Society of Social Brothers, as well as several church communities invite all those who carry the peace and protection of our country, Europe and the world to a candlelight rosary procession.
The war in Ukraine, which broke out in February, is not quieting down, and as the conflict deepens, it is also apparent that it is very difficult to find a human solution to the increasing suffering and problems.
After hearing the alarming news coming in every day, the time has come to recall the extraordinary events of the past or recent times, when the power of common prayer, especially the rosary, miraculously changed the course of history. One of the best known of these is the Philippine Rosary Revolution. In 1986, two million people wearing rosaries on their wrists gathered in Manila, led by their cardinal arch-pastor, to peacefully demand the departure of President Ferdinand Marcos. When the dictator gave the order to fire against them, a lady of wonderful beauty, surrounded by a beam of light, appeared in front of the soldiers armed to the chin and the crowd praying the rosary. This was enough to prevent bloodshed and President Marcos left the country the next day.
The rosary procession on October 8 will take place in the Buda Castle District, and its starting and return point will be Szentáromság Square in front of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Buda, which is an emblematic historic site for the peace of Hungary. In 1686, during the expulsion of the Turks, a famous "Miracle of Mary" happened here. After an explosion, the statue of the Holy Virgin, which had been hidden until then, appeared before the Muslims, which they interpreted as a supernatural apparition, and this caused the morale of the garrison to collapse almost immediately, so the city fell into the hands of the Christians that same day. The Szentáromság Square itself was then created out of gratitude by our ancestors around the Church of the Assumption.
The rosary procession is led by Cardinal Péter Erdő, Primate, who blesses Budapest and Hungary from the Fisherman's Bastion at the end of the prayer.
The organizers ask that the participants bring a candlestick or a candle and awaken in their souls the trust in the protection of the Holy Virgin, which confirms the truth of the old Hungarian saying: The darker the night, the brighter the stars .
