We are prepared for the winter, Hungary's energy supply is secured - stated Tamás Menczer, the State Secretary responsible for the development of bilateral relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (KKM) on Thursday in Cegléd.
At the inauguration of the new factory building of Infineon Technologies Cegléd Kft., built with HUF 6.4 billion government support, the State Secretary reminded:
Hungary has a long-term gas purchase agreement with Russia.
In addition, the Turkish Stream gas pipeline enables gas to arrive in Hungary from the southern direction through Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia. This is now the only gas pipeline that operates at 100 percent capacity, he noted.
The third reason why
our energy supply is secure, thanks to the gas reservoirs in which 46 percent of Hungary's annual consumption is already stored, while the European average is 26 percent.
All this means that there is enough gas in the reservoirs for 93 winter days, so that the supply is continuous. If we only look at residential gas consumption, this amount would be enough for 193 winter days - which there are none - Tamás Menczer stressed.
He also spoke about the fact that we are living in an age of crises, which appear one after the other or even parallel to each other. In relation to crises, the Hungarian government has always provided its answers and solutions, and it has always turned out that the Hungarian solutions work.
Tamás Menczer stated: regarding the war, we said from the beginning that we were on the side of peace.
We support and advocate for peace negotiations and an immediate ceasefire. As a result of the responses to the war and the sanctions, Europe is also facing an economic and energy crisis. We have always been skeptical about sanctions, because historical experience shows that they do not achieve the desired effect. But specifically in the field of energy, we said that sanctions should not be applied.
Tamás Menczer said at the handover of the new factory building of semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies Cegléd Kft., with a total value of HUF 31.9 billion, that the investment will create 275 new jobs.
The company produces a product in Hungary that is in demand worldwide, as almost one hundred percent of the products produced here are prepared for export, said the state secretary. He added that the company's place in the world economy is well characterized by the fact that in the 2020-2021 business year, the net sales at the group level were more than 11 billion euros and it employs 50,000 employees.
Tamás Menczer called German-Hungarian economic cooperation a success story. He pointed out that 6,000 German companies in Hungary today employ 300,000 people as the largest foreign investor community.
According to Infineon Technologies Cegléd Kft., the company has been present in Hungary for 28 years and with the new investment, the production facilities at their site in Cegléd will get a new factory.
The company is a market leader in the development and production of semiconductors for industrial use. Up to now, Hungary has produced power modules up to a voltage class of 3500 V, which are used in areas such as green energy and industrial automation. With the construction of the new factory, the number of employees of the company will approach 1,600.
According to publicly available data, in the business year that ended on September 30, 2021, the company achieved a profit after tax of HUF 877 million with sales revenue of HUF 18.17 billion.
