Ukraine will stop its electricity exports to European countries due to the large-scale Russian missile attack on energy facilities on Monday, the Ministry of Energy announced.
In the ministry's statement - which was quoted by the Ukrainska Pravda news portal - it stated that Russia is using "energy terror" against both Ukraine and the European Union. "The Ukrainian electricity we exported helped Europe replace Russian gas and supported the stability of the European energy system," the ministry highlighted.
They added that even after the shutdown of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian occupation for more than seven months, Ukraine has fulfilled its electricity export obligations towards its European partners.
"However, today's missile strikes, which hit thermal and electrical substations, will force Ukraine to stop exporting electricity from October 11, 2022, in order to stabilize its own energy system," the ministry explained.
"Exporting electricity from Ukraine has helped Europe reduce its consumption of Russian energy sources, and this is why Russia is destroying our energy system, making it impossible for us to export electricity from Ukraine," stated Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko.
