On Saturday morning, Kristóf Milák, the Olympic champion of the 200-meter butterfly, swam a European record with a time of 49.68 and won a silver medal in the 100-meter event at the Tokyo Olympics. The race was won by the American Caeleb Dressel, who finished with a world record time of 49.45, thereby winning his third gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the preliminaries, only world record holder Dressel was faster than Milák's time of 50.62 seconds, he swam an Olympic record of 50.39 seconds. In the middle race, both classics switched to a "deadly pace". Milák won his race with an Olympic record time of 50.31. However, Milák's amazing record only lasted for a few minutes, because in the next middle race Dressel swam 49.71, thereby becoming his new Olympic record and reaching the final with the best time.

The American swimmer felt at home, as the American team was represented by a 30-person fan base, who encouraged Dressel at the top of their lungs. The 24-year-old American got off to a great start, after coming out of the water he already had an advantage of at least half a body length. However, Milák did not manage to build up the start of the race, so at the turn he was 65 hundredths behind Dressel. In the second 50 meters, the amazing Milák-hajra came, which resulted in a European record of 49.68, but the American did not run out at the end either, so Dressel reached the finish line with a world record time of 49.45, thereby winning his third gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Milák won the Hungarian team's sixth medal, including the second silver at the Tokyo Games.

I was relieved that I had finally reached my destination and it was finally over. I am proud of myself and my opponents that we were able to compete so well. We brought out the best in each other," commented Kristóf Milák with satisfaction, who escaped the European summit, so Dressel needed a world record for the gold medal. "It's realistic. I couldn't have gotten more out of it. This whole time result means that Dressel got a little scared, and I gave him a good chase. We brought out the best in each other."
