As in previous years, the watch fires will be lit this year on the last Sunday of October to show the world: the autonomy of Székelyland and the freedom of the Székely people is a common cause of all Hungarians.
"In 2022, the Autonomy Day of Székelyföld will fall on October 30. With the experience of the pandemic behind us, in the midst of wartime inflation, we are preparing for joint prayer and lighting the watch fires with our commitment to the Székely people, knowing that our duties to our homeland and our community will not be diminished by the trials we have to face.
This should be the motto of the Áron Tamási memorial year, October 30. This is what Áron Tamási's message to posterity expresses," reads the call formulated by the Székely National Council.
The Székely National Council announced for the first time in 2015 that the watch fires would be lit throughout Székelyland, thereby indicating:
the people of Székely do not give up their legitimate demands, including self-determination. What - unlike us, they dare to call it by its name and call it autonomy...
The following year, the last Sunday of October was entered into the calendar as the day of Székely autonomy, and we have kept it as such ever since. In recent years, on this day, flames have flared up all over the Carpathian basin, expressing Hungarian unity and solidarity with the cause of the Szeklers.
This year, the last Sunday of October falls on October 30. On this day, according to SZNT's invitation,
in the morning we pray in our churches, and in the evening at 5:30 p.m. the flames of the watch fires will be lit simultaneously in Székelyföld - and everywhere else that joins this initiative.
"A hundred years ago, Székelyföld came under Romanian administration together with Transylvania. During this century, regardless of what kind of government Romania had and what the ruling system was like, the Romanian authorities always viewed Székelyland as a colony when it came to the exploitation of resources, but at the same time as a territory to be conquered, when the Romanian population planned his resettlement and assimilation policy"
- can be read in the announcement of the SZNT, which - mutatis mutandis - is also perfectly true for the Highlands. writes velvidek.ma. We are just waiting for our watch fires to flare up here as well - not only symbolically - and for us to finally have leaders who have enough blood to dare to say:
the Hungarian Highlands occupied by the Slovak state have the right to self-administration - autonomy.
In the meantime, however, let's join our Székely brothers, and let the watch fires for Székely autonomy flare up again in Felvidék as well! - writes Felvidek.ma
