Hungary will maintain the operation of the embassy in Kyiv, this was announced by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Monday morning, before he left for Luxembourg for the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states.

The head of the ministry said that war will be on the agenda at the meeting, adding that the events of the past few weeks unfortunately pointed not towards peace, but towards escalation. Several decisions were made and several events took place, as a result of which the war turned "in the direction of brutality and escalation," he said.

"We Hungarians want peace, and we also call on everyone in international politics to refrain from decisions that cause escalation, and to finally put the focus on peace efforts," he said.

According to Péter Szijjártó, we have to wait for this, bomb attacks and rocket hits hit downtown Kyiv on Monday morning as well.

He explained that he had a telephone consultation with the Hungarian ambassador in Kyiv, István Íjgyártó, who reported that four impacts could be heard in the morning hours. The city has also been hit by attacks in recent days.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the ambassador and all employees of the embassy are safe and sound, the embassy building was not hit either, and is suitable for work. From time to time, the mobile phone service and the power supply are cut off for a few hours, but the operating conditions still basically exist, which is why they jointly decided with the ambassador to maintain the operation of the embassy.

If a Hungarian person gets into trouble in Kiev, we will help him, said the minister, adding that the necessary technical equipment needed for operation has already been procured. Food supplies were replenished, and mobile beds were also purchased in case people in need had to be accommodated.

Péter Szijjártó said: he asked the ambassador, if there was a "dramatic change" in the circumstances, to notify him immediately, so that their decision could be changed immediately for the safety of the ambassador and the embassy staff.
