Hungary supports all European Union proposals that support the diversity of energy supply, which means that energy dependence must be exchanged for diversification, the Minister of Justice stated in Luxembourg on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists before the meeting of EU member states' ministers dealing with European affairs, Judit Varga stated that Hungary does not support proposals that would endanger the security of energy supply.

"Now, when Europe is threatened by a general recession, it is important to deal with the issue of energy and the economy at the highest level along with common sense and with priority"

- stated the Minister of Justice, and then added: dialogue is necessary, we must not give way to ideological battles, which in this situation threaten the competitiveness and economy of the European Union.

He called it clear that it is necessary to start in the direction of diversification, to build pipelines, because - as he said -

from the west, not as much energy can arrive in Central Europe as is needed. In his opinion, it is important that Europe has more, at least four to six, offers from different energy suppliers on the table.

"We want to see such proposals, not those that threaten energy security," said the minister.

Regarding the Hungarian commitments that would facilitate the withdrawal of funds from the post-coronavirus crisis recovery fund, he stated that forward-looking negotiations are underway with the European Commission. He called it important that, in addition to the committee, the member states also assured Hungary of their trust. Hungary is committed to fulfilling its commitments, he underlined.

Finally, he emphasized: it is important that the negotiations on the recovery fund include the increase of teachers' salaries. If the opposition also supports the success of the negotiations, teachers' wages could increase by 21 percent from January 1, Judit Varga added.
