The German federal government would no longer classify cannabis as an illegal drug and would subject the market of the psychoactive substance to strict regulation, it was announced in Berlin on Wednesday.
Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach said in his briefing on the basic principles of the proposed regulation that the approach based on treating cannabis as an illegal drug, i.e. banning the cultivation, sale and consumption of the substance, is a failure, because consumption is increasing, the black market is expanding, and the drug's active ingredient content is increasing .
Therefore, new solutions are needed, explained the minister, emphasizing that the Dutch model cannot be followed because it combines all the disadvantages of liberal regulation.
The government's goal is not to further increase consumption, but to strengthen child, youth and health protection. Therefore, according to the plans, the production, distribution and consumption of the substance will be permitted under strict limits and state supervision. Consumption can be permitted for people over 18 years of age, they can possess between 20 and 30 grams, and they can grow three plants of hemp for their own consumption.
2022 plus:
The events of the past few years confirmed the sad fact that the German government(s) went for a walk and has not returned since. From Merkel's "Wir schaffen das", or "We can do it" migrant policy (and of course they couldn't do it, or more precisely: they did it well) to the fight against nuclear power plants to supporting LGBTQ mental illness, they have all taken steps that are not it led further and further in the direction of their common sense, but in the exact opposite direction. And he leads on with this cannabis thing.
What a waste of logic! If we can't do anything about it, we'll allow it. If we make it legal, we have nothing more to do with it and no one can attack us for not doing anything about it. Fingers crossed, here is the final and all-purpose solution! Illegal migrants? Well, let's say it's legal, because everyone has the right to live where they want. Care taken. Crime? Well, let's say that (similar to cannabis) a certain number of burglaries, robberies, or even rapes are allowed, and then we won't have to deal with these menial matters either. There is no human trafficker, just a social manager helping refugees. And we can definitely recommend to them the concept introduced by SZDSZ and Gábor Kuncze: subsistence crime. Then everything will be understandable and acceptable.
In vain, German ingenuity is unsurpassed. The only question is, if more such ideas are put into practice, how long will German people remain who can be inventive.
