After a long tug-of-war and periods of caution, the contract for the construction of the Marokece-Aranyosgyéres highway section was signed with the Strabag company on Wednesday at the headquarters of the national company managing road infrastructure (CNAIR).

The winner has just two years to complete the 16-kilometer section. The construction of the track section between Maroskece-Aranyosgyéres on the border of Maros and Kolozs counties was started in 2015 by the company Straco, with whom the contract was terminated in 2021. At that time, 34 percent of the works were completed. The first result of the new tender was declared null and void because the winning company was found to be ineligible for public procurement.

The new winner was the Strabag Geiger association, but this result was saved by the Drum Asfalt company. In the end, the competition was closed in mid-September and the winner was the Strabag-Geiger association.

According to the signed contract, the Strabag-Geiger association has 3 months for planning and 18 months for construction. The value of the contract is 420 million lei, and during the works, among other things, they have to build two bridges and a junction near Maroskece. The 15.7-kilometer road section will be implemented with European Union funds.

If this missing section is completed, it will be possible to drive from Marosvásárhely to Cluj-Napoca on the highway, but it will also be easier to travel by car to Nagyenyed and Gyulafehérvár.
