The news of the death of the former actor of the Hungarian State Opera House and József Attila Theater was announced by his colleague, László Szacsvay. Gábor Maros's health has not been satisfactory for years, he was treated in hospital a year ago, when he suffered a stroke.
Gábor Maros was born on September 27, 1947 as Gábor Mayer in Budapest. Already at a young age, he was captivated by the passion for the performing arts, so it was already clear what he wanted to do before his university years. In 1971, he graduated from the Academy of Theater and Film Arts with an acting degree, and almost immediately after obtaining his degree, he could be seen in famous roles.
His career began at the capital's Operetta Theater, where he played between 1971-1973 and 1976-1981, then in 1973 he transferred to the József Attila Theater. In addition to theaters, he also conquered the boards of the opera house, performing at the Hungarian State Opera House between 1981 and 1988. In 1988, he became an artist of the Katona József Theater in Kecskemét, and in 1989 of the Csokonai Theater in Debrecen. Between 1990 and 1993 he toured in Amsterdam and between 1993 and 1995 in Australia, thanks to the theater he was able to perform in all corners of the world. From 1995 to 1999, he was a member of the Petőfi Theater in Sopron, and from 2000 to 2002, a member of Vidám Színpad. Since 2003, he has been an actor at the Sziget Theater.
As a versatile artist, in addition to his prose roles, he was not an easy sell in musical genres either, audiences could see him in tenor roles in musicals, operettas and operas. During his international tours, he also performed in Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Amsterdam, Sydney, New York and Jerusalem.
