In a TV interview, Emmanuel Macron was forced to elaborate on the link between immigration and crime, stating that "we cannot ignore the fact that at least half of the crimes we observe come from foreigners".
In the interview, he clarified: he was talking about foreigners who are "waiting for a permit".
The French portal 20 Minutes contacted the Ministry of the Interior regarding the matter, and they received the answer that 48% of the suspects in Paris crimes (attacks on property and people) were foreigners in the first six months of 2022.
In the case of certain crimes, however, the rate of occurrence is even more striking: 70.4% of violent robberies and 75.6% of simple thefts are committed by "foreigners" in Paris.
In the case of the outer suburbs, the rate is almost as high: foreigners account for 41% of all crimes, while for violent robberies 57.8% and simple thefts 65.1%.
