Prime Minister Viktor Orbán asked the left-wing representatives in the parliament not to obstruct a favorable decision for Hungary in Brussels. The prime minister said during the immediate questions hour that all excess income currently goes to the overhead protection fund, which is why the EU funds are important, which will enable teacher salary increases of 21, 25 and 29 percent in the next three years.

"If Hungary fully receives what it is entitled to, in that case we will be able to raise teachers' salaries by 21 percent in 2023, 25 percent in 2024, and 29 percent in 2025, " Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared in the Parliament. The prime minister answered an immediate question from MSZP MP Tamás Harangozó, who argued that due to the lack of EU funds, there is not enough money to raise teachers' salaries.

Viktor Orbán stated that: currently, every additional income of the budget goes to the utility protection fund, from which the government pays the HUF 181,000 per month that every family - including the families of teachers - receives.

He recalled that there was a ten percent increase for teachers in 2020, which was followed by another ten percent increase in 2021 and this year as well.

According to Viktor Orbán, if we don't get the EU funds, the government will only be able to increase teachers' salaries by ten percent in the coming years, that is, instead of the planned three, the wages could only be raised to the desired level in four to six years.

"That's why I ask you and advise you that if you want teachers' salaries in Hungary to grow faster than ten percent a year, then be kind and stand up for Hungary in Brussels"

- emphasized the Prime Minister.
