"Let's fill in the national consultation forms", let people entrust their acquaintances and friends with this, said the Minister of Finance in Budapest on Friday.

Mihály Varga of Let's say no to sanctions! in the framework of the country tour, at a forum held in Óbuda, he highlighted that the Hungarian government is the first in Europe to ask people's opinions about the sanctions. By filling in the questionnaires, they look for points of agreement. "If 1 million or 2 million people state their point of view, that is already a sample of the opinion of society in the country, which is worth taking into account for the government, (...) let's fill in the national consultation forms, then the Hungarian government can go to Brussels with a well-founded opinion ", the minister stated.

Mihály Varga said that the government's goal is to keep Hungary out of the war, as well as to try to convince Brussels: the series of sanctions measures brought against the war is the wrong direction and will not bring us closer to a solution.
All of this just makes the life of Europeans, including Hungarians, more difficult in a senseless way. At the same time, he also emphasized that "it is not a question for us who is the aggressor, the aggression was initiated by Russia"; the Hungarian government is on the side of peace.

Mihály Varga recalled: the first step of the Brussels administration in response to the war was the creation of a sanctions policy, but this caused an energy crisis and rising energy prices.
The war and the energy crisis brought high inflation through the increase in prices, he pointed out. He said: the Hungarian government is trying to ensure that the sanctions do not apply to the most important energy field for the country. After all, it is not a political, ideological, but a physical question as to where Hungary gets its energy from, which can only do so via gas and oil pipelines.

In Mihály Varga's presentation, he touched on the beneficiaries and losers of the sanctions against Russia. Among the former, in addition to Russia, he also mentioned the United States of America, China and György Soros, and in connection with that, he also listed the Hungarian left here. In his explanation, he cited as an example that since the outbreak of the war, economic relations between China and Russia have tripled. And for the latter, he pointed to Europe, since 40 percent of the EU's gas consumption came from Russia, and this must now be replaced elsewhere, at a much higher price, which is ruining European economies.

In this situation, according to the minister, the only thing the government can do is to ask people's opinions through the 12th national consultation, and to try to protect Hungarian families. He highlighted: in an international comparison, in the European Union, Hungary provides the largest subsidy for compensating energy prices, every Hungarian family receives HUF 181,000 per month in support for average consumption.

They should trust the Hungarian government, which cannot be accused of not being active and able to act, said Mihály Varga. "In the past 12 years, when we have had some kind of trouble or crisis, we have managed to come out of them well in the end," he said, and at the end of his presentation, he again asked the audience to fill out and return the questionnaires.
