Three years ago, in 2019 and again in 2021, the Advent Basilica was chosen as the best Christmas market in Europe. The event held in front of the Basilica of St. Stephen's Square won the ten-day online competition of the independent travel portal European Best Destinations, ahead of the Christmas markets of Basel, Metz, Vienna, Madeira, Prague, Dusseldorf, Moscow and Brussels, among others, with almost 25,000 votes.
The final result of the competition was determined by 173,620 voters from 163 countries, most of whom voted from the United Kingdom. The Advent Basilica not only came out on top in the overall vote, but also proved to be the absolute favorite among those coming from England and the United States.
"Since the foundation of the event, it has been our mission to contribute to increasing the tourist attraction of Budapest and Hungary during the holiday season. We are proud that the Advent Basilica is once again bringing Budapest's fame to the world with this prestigious title," read the lines recalling previous successes on the event's website.
The fair opens on November 18 this year and closes on January 1, 2023.
