A previous amendment to the law brings a significant advantage to motorists and other motorists, who from January 1, 2023 will not have to fear a fine if they cannot show their driver's license or traffic permit to the police officer, the Telex article reads .
According to the newspaper, however, this facilitation alone cannot avoid the on-site seizure of documents, because the police have had the tool for years, with which they can remove everything and everyone from traffic with a few clicks.
Although the police officers performing road inspections have had the right to discretion, so they could even give a verbal warning to those motorists who did not hand over their vehicle's license or driver's license upon request, leaving the documents at home is a minor violation of the road traffic rules and is considered a misdemeanor . An on-the-spot fine of HUF 5,000 or HUF 50,000 can be imposed for such a thing, and the person concerned will pay a maximum of HUF 150,000 if an infringement procedure is initiated against him.
According to the newspaper's police source, however, from January 1, 2023, the above two documents will not have to be presented when obtaining a certificate, and therefore the drivers cannot be sanctioned in any way, since such a thing is no longer considered a violation of the rules. An important detail is that the change only applies to those whose driving license was issued in Hungary and whose vehicle is also registered in the Hungarian register, the article reads.
