Ferenc Gyurcsány has now won another trophy from Párbeszéd after many MSZP and momentous politicians. Balázs Szücs, one of the founders of Párbeszéd, deputy mayor of Erzsébetváros, now continues his work as a member of the local DK faction. Meanwhile, another fault line has emerged on the left, this time over who should be delegated to the supervisory board of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
It is always a pleasure when a new member is added to our community, especially when an acquaintance decides to continue the work started not only in an alliance, but also in a joint party and faction in order to achieve our goals more efficiently and reliably. That is why I was very happy to receive Deputy Mayor Balázs Szücs' announcement that he will continue to work as a member of the Democratic Coalition's faction from today on, Péter Niedermüller, the mayor of Erzsébetváros SE, announced on his social media page.
In the person of Balázs Szücs, Ferenc Gyurcsány did not lure anyone over to their side. According to the Párbeszéd website, their former politician, who was also one of the party's founders, was a member for thirteen years.
Between 2013 and 2019, Szücs was responsible for Párbeszéd's networking, he acted as campaign manager in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 parliamentary elections, twice leading his team to victory, winning with Tímea Szabó, and then defending the individual parliamentary mandate in Óbuda-Békásmegyer.
According to the signs, DK, which is now openly striving for a hegemonic role on the left, is devouring its rivals like a veritable little ball. It is known: in the recent period, many MSZP politicians switched to Ferenc Gyurcsány's party, because they saw their future secured there.
Among them is Sándor Szaniszló XVIII. district and Óbuda mayor László Kiss, who were later followed by Újpest deputy mayor Norbert Trippon and István Farkas, as well as local government representative Gábor Szabó. Gyula Molnár, the former president of the MSZP, also moved to the DK, but the former socialist deputy mayor of Kazincbarcika, István Klimon, also chose Gyurcsányék last year. Although - for now - he has not transferred to the DK, it is telling that in the shadow government of Klára Dobrev, András Nemény, the socialist mayor of Szombathely, was the only one outside the party to be given the position of adviser, who chose this task instead of the chair of the MSZP president.
Just a month ago, Tibor Déri, the mayor of Újpest, announced that he would leave Momentum and join the DK faction in the Capital Assembly - he has not yet joined the party. And the wave of transfers to the Gyurcsány Ferencs can only be strengthened by the fact that members of other parties will be able to enter the DK in the future, abandoning the rule adopted since the foundation.
